The earliest records of the Bear Creek Mutual Telephone Co. records a list of 11 member stock holders. Members were responsible for maintenance of their own lines and much of the business of the company had to do with the acquiring and replacing tamarack poles for the main line. Each shareholder paid a levy determined by the company, a rental fee and any toll fees for calls beyond their line.
