Woking Willing Workers
Woking Willing Workers. -- 1961-1999. -- 23.5 cm of textual records, 4 photographs, 5 blueprints.
Agency History
Partly as a result of the disbanding of the Legion Auxiliary, the Woking Willing Workers club was organized at a meeting November 23, 1956 at the home of Mrs. Erna Zahn. There were 26 members with Harriet Herrick, president and Ursula Delfs, secretary-treasurer. Mabel Tracy gave the club their name. The club has involved itself with adressing many needs of the community. As well as taking full responsibility for the operation of the hall and eventually construcing a new hall in 1983, they also facilitated the formation of the Woking and District Board of Trade which accomplished getting water and sewer installed into the hamlet. In the early 1990s, they planned and sponsored the building of a community playground. They have always been involved in supporting charitable groups such as the Red Cross. Woking School and Central Peace Hospital. Income to support the club has come from grants, hall rentals and catering to communityand private functions. One of their annual fundraisers has been a harvest supper. The WWW are still a fully functional group, ready to celebrate their 50th anniversary soon.
