South Peace Horticultural Society fonds. -- 1970 - 1987. -- 16 cm of textual records, 86 negatives.

Agency History

The South Peace Horticultural Society was formed in 1969. Jim Kluyt, Yvonne McAllister and Mary Orchuk made up the first executive. The society was a member of the Alberta Horticultural Association and its major projects each year were the Spring and Fall flower shows. Later this was downsized to one annual flower show. The club disbanded in 1987.

Custodial History

Records were donated to the Grande Prairie Museum in 1998, but were not accessioned until 2000 while waiting for proper authority.

Scope and Content

The fonds consists of incorporation documents, minutes, membership lists, correspondence, financial records, records of annual flower shows, a hardy vegetable project done in cooperation with the Beaverlodge Research Station, newsclippings, and newsletters and reports from the Alberta Horticultural Association.

Series 021.01	Executive Records. -- 1969 - 1986. -- 8 cm of textual records. The series consists of correspondence and documents relating to the formation of the South Peace Horticultural Society, minutes, membership lists, correspondence and financial records.

Series 021.02	Project Records. -- 1970 - 1987. -- 4 cm of textual records, 86 negatives. The series consists of programmes from the annual flower shows, some with winners listed, the response to the Hardy Vegetable Project from the Peace Country, and newsclippings relating to the society’s activities. A collection of slides on the flower shows contains 56 of the 1974 show, 21 on 1975, 8 on 1976 and 1 on 1977.
